10 things we know about the Apple Watch - Fast Facts

Any last questions we have about the Apple Watch are about to get answered.

Apple is holding an event in Cupertino, Calif. on Monday, during which CEO Tim Cook and other executives are expected to announce more details about the Apple Watch.
There's a tremendous amount of anticipation surrounding the Apple Watch. Sure, it tells time and acts as a second screen and remote control for other Apple products. But the watch's design is what has most Apple fans buzzing.
Here's what we know about Apple's first wearable device so far:
1. The Apple Watch will be available in three models -- The Apple Watch, The Apple Watch Sport, and the Apple Watch Edition.

2. The watches are made from stainless steel (Apple Watch), anodized aluminum (Apple Watch Sport), and 18-karat gold (Apple Watch Edition). The Apple Watch and Apple Watch Edition screens will be crafted from Sapphire Crystal, the same material used in luxury watches. The Apple Watch Sport will feature an Ion-X glass display.

4. There are only two buttons on the watch.

4. Each model will come in two sizes: a 38mm or 1.5 inch, and 42 mm or 1.7 inch (height).

5. The Apple Watch needs an iPhone to connect to the Internet. And not just any iPhone -- the oldest iPhone it will connect to is the iPhone 5, and it has to be running the latest iOS 8 software. It connects to the iPhone via Bluetooth.

6. It will cost at least $349. That's most likely for the smaller sports model watch but specific price tags are still unknown. Some critics think it's too expensive.

7. Each Apple Watch model will be available in two colors: stainless steel and black stainless steel for the Apple Watch; silver aluminum and gray aluminum for the Apple Watch Sport; and 18-karat yellow gold and 18-karat rose gold for the Apple Watch Edition.

8. There are six types of wristbands -- 1) a metal band with a traditional clasp, 2) a rubber sport band, 3) a magnetic leather band, 4) a leather band with a classic buckle, 5) a leather band with a modern buckle, and 6) a flexible metal magnetic band.

9. You can use it to work out. The Apple Watch will have a heart rate sensor and an accelerometer to measure body movements, including step count. The watch does not have GPS, which comes as a major disappointment to fitness enthusiasts.

10. It will "tap" you when you have notifications. You can also tap the watch back, sending other Watch owners taps that can emulate a sender's heartbeat.

What we still don't know
1. The exact date the Apple Watch will go on sale. It's expected to be sometime in April.

2. If Apple plans to sell the Apple Watch outside the United States on launch day. Apple CEO Tim Cook recently visited Apple's flagship retail store in Germany and told employees the Apple Watch will be available in that country in April.
3. How long the battery lasts. Given it requires continuous connectivity to an iPhone, the Apple Watch's battery life is a major concern.

4. How much each model will cost. The starting price is $349, but it will be interesting to see what the range of prices will be — specifically, the ceiling price for the Apple Watch Edition, which features an 18-karat gold case.
5. It's unclear if Apple will allow people to buy bands separately to create their own customized watches.
